Expectation is to harvest 6.4 million tons of fiber in the country, with 4.3 million in Mato Grosso alone. In Brazil, Cotton is one of the crops that has grown the most in Brazil and this crop should be a record. Farmers are expected to harvest about 6.4 million tonnes of seed cotton.
Mato Grosso is the largest fiber producer in the country. The area planted in the state, which was 777 thousand hectares, now in 2019 went to 1 million hectares, according to Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento.
Larger area means increased production. Across the state, 4.3 million tonnes are expected to be harvested, a volume 33% higher than last year.
Even with the cultivation still under development, farmer Vitor Vesz makes good bets for the harvest. At his property, in Campo Verde, in the southeast of Mato Grosso, the area is 25% larger than in the past crop. The motivation to increase production is income. It closed deals at $ 100 of cotton, on average.
"Prices are good so far, the corn is always running a little low. Then we are evaluating and we decided to venture into cotton, which can give a little more return," he says.
