When concluded, the Railroad North-South (1980 km / 1,237 mi) will connect the states of Maranhão, Tocantins and Goiás to the ports in the States of Espírito Santo and Sao Paulo.
The railroad integration of the Brazilian regions will make possible the economic and social opening of the Brazilian cerrado with an area of approximately 1,8 million of sq km, representing 21.84% of the area of Brazil, and 15.51% of the Brazilian population.

This bridge for the extension of the North-South railroad has been built for 15 years or more.
Recently, I have seen activity on the preparation of the railroad bed. There is activity from time to time, but very difficult to predict when this rail extension will actually function.
After the inauguration of the stretch between São Simão (GO) and Estrela D'Oeste (SP) of the Norte-Sul railroad, in March 2021, and the successful auction in April of stretch 1 of the West-East Integration Railroad (Fiol), won by Bahia Mineração, the railway sector has its eye on the tender scheduled for the end of the year for Ferrogrão, one of the largest “greenfield” projects in the infrastructure sector in the last 20 years. The governor of the State of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, announced that the companies Rumo and Caramuru Alimentos signed a new partnership. They invest R$ 80 million in the construction of a railroad transshipment terminal for multimodal cargo transportation, interconnected to the North-South Railway.
Installed in the municipality of São Simão, in the extreme southwest of Goiás, the terminal will be able to handle more than 5.5 million tons per year of soy, corn, and soy meal. This is equivalent to more than 80 thousand trucks per year.
“We will have the capacity, along with road transport, to make grains and industrial products reach the Port of Santos at a competitive price for the productive sector of the State of Goiás+_+,” said Caiado.
