 When concluded, the Railroad North-South (1980 km / 1,237 mi) will connect the states of Maranhão, Tocantins and Goiás to the ports in the States of Espírito Santo and Sao Paulo, which are located to the South and East of Goiás. The railroad integration of the Brazilian regions will be make possible the economic and social opening of the Brazilian cerrado with an area of approximately 1,8 million of km 2, representing 21.84% of the area of Brazil, and 15.51% of the Brazilian population.
