In One Brazilian Farm Town, Reviving The Forest - Lucas do Rio Verde - NPR

Until recently, Darci Eichelt planted soybeans across his entire 6,000-acre farm outside Lucas do Rio Verde in central Brazil. Now, Eichelt is planting native vegetation that will eventually cover about one-third of his property. Sadia S.A. Announces Investment for Second Stage of Lucas do Rio Verde-MT Project

Sadia S.A. (Sadia) announced that its Board of Directors approved investments in the amount of R$308 million to complete the second stage of Lucas do Rio Verde-MT Project, the purpose of which is to reach a total slaughtering capacity of 145 million heads per year of poultry and 2.5 million heads per year of hogs. This investment also includes supporting areas, utilities, agriculture and livestock. The operational startup of this second stage is scheduled for the second half of 2010.

Dairy industry will be located in Lucas do Rio Verde 
The forecast is that the industry will produce one million liters per day and whose profitability will be higher than soybean
 

President of Cooagril Paulo FranzThe dairy industry is beginning to gain strength in Lucas do Rio Verde with a R$ 70 million investment only in the industrial structure of the Rio Verde Dairy, whose construction is scheduled to begin early next year, in addition, the sector that will encourage industry also earn reinforcement.


The project will be introduced on Friday, 31/07, after the official opening of
Expolucas 2009. The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Mr. Reinhold Stephanes and the Governor of Mato Grosso, Mr. Blairo Maggi, will be present.

The first stage of the project plans to produce 15,000 liters per day reaching 1 million liters within seven years.


The expansion of production will directly benefit some 15 cities within a radius of 170 kilometers and generate about 300 direct manufacturing jobs and an estimated 700 in the surrounding counties. 
 
The industrial park will be one of the most modern in the world. "This is a sector that includes both small and large producers, which will bring wide range of opportunities for workers, professionals and investors." said the President, Mr. Paulo Franz.
