Mato Grosso - Sterne Agee NYC

2 Mar 11

Long day yesterday

Muddy roads. 5 inches of rain on Monday.

We visited  with SLC  John Deere group in MT on Tuesday.

A 28,000 ha farm - 30% harvested - 70% at this time last year.

Beans are  30% moisture.  No damage to sample that I saw yesterday.

Beans yields still very good at 58 sacs/ha - 50 bushel per acre.

The manager says  "I will plant 2nd crop corn till march 5th then I must stop."
Big reduction in 2nd crop corn. Others will plant later, but usually burns up.

Tooooooooooo  much rain - the  guy  was losing his mind yesterday.
They are already 9000 ha behind and can't go.

Today (2 Mar) another cloudy,  rainy looking  day in MT.

They can't catch a break

Foundation do Rio Verde 5 year research says that 2nd crop corn planted after Feb 25th will lose 5 sacs/ha(4 bushel per acre) in yield each day. Only 50% of the 2nd crop corn has been planted. More info in upcoming newsletter."

OBS:

26 combines and 12 planters were going in one field.

We could drive the van into the field after 5 inches of rain, but we were getting stuck on the roads!
