Araguaia Region of Mato Grosso State BrazilAraguaia Region Has Highest Rate of Soybean Planting Expansion

Mato Grosso has approximately 6.2 million hectares for soybean crops. Of these, 950,000 are in the Araguaia Region. Based on the average growth of the planting area per year, in ten years Araguaia alone will virtually harvest all that is now grown throughout the state of Mato Grosso. It is expected that the amount of tons of grain double thanks to the expansion of that region.

Recent figures indicate that Mato Grosso will resume the position of leader in the national production of grains in the 11/12 harvest due to expanded planting soybeans. This harvest, the state should produce 31.15 million tons to 31.42 million, representing growth of 0.7 to 1.5%, respectively, compared to the volume of 30.94 million tons last harvest - 10 / 11.

Paraná, which had resumed on 10/11 first place with 32.44 million tons, is the prospect of break between 3.8% to 6.2%, percentages which, if confirmed, will yield the production of 30.42 million to 31.21 million, respectively. Mato Grosso has started the season by sowing the first soybeans new season.

Mato Grosso Takes Lead in Processing

Last year, MT won the top ranking for soybean production and now leads in processing capacity as well. With the arrival of new industries, mainly attracted by the proximity of the origination of the raw material (production) and the granting of tax incentives, move from third position in 2008 to take the lead once again, surpassing the Paraná. According to a survey of Association Brazilian Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), 13 plants are located in Mato Grosso, of which two are standing and one processes the cotton seed. The state's total capacity of 12 million a year while in Paraná, the installed capacity is just over 11 million tons annually. Considering that the 10/11 harvest was over 20 million tons - a record - and that in the current season could reach up to 22 million tons, there is room to expand the industrial sector. Among the current crushing capacity to transform the grain into meal or extract oil, there is a surplus of 8 million tons. This amount has been allocated to the international market in natura (grain).

The effect of industrialization of soybeans, as well as the added-value to the grain domestically, is the gradual reduction of exports. Last year, 46% of production was shipped in the form of grain. In 2009, 59%, in 2008, 49%, in 2007, 44% in 2006 and to 59% this year through September, was 38%, but Abiove expects close to 40%.

Farmers from Mato Grosso Visit China

Farmers, journalists, political leaders and leaders of professional associations in the agricultural sector of Mato Grosso start, on Friday, a mission to China in order to strengthen partnerships with the largest consumer of Mato Grosso soybeans.

Coordinated by the Association of Soy Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja), the program includes visits to farms - most located in the countryside, and grain processing industries and meat processors. The "China Mission" starts on August 13  and will end on the 24th.   The group will visit the Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to the president of Aprosoja, Glauber Silveira, the goal is to know one of the largest importing countries of soybeans from Mato Grosso, making information exchange and strengthen the relationship. "In addition to visiting rural areas of China, we will also have meetings with representatives of trading companies and soybean crushing industry," said Silveira. The itinerary also includes visits to Beijing and Shanghai ports.

A Chinese executive will welcome members of the entourage. Lin Tan, CEO of Hopefull & Holding Corporation, was among the speakers during the Aprosoja Circuit, held in April and May in Mato Grosso, and stressed that the world's best soybeans are produced in Mato Grosso. He traveled for several days in the main soybean producing municipalities of the state and stressed that the oil content of soybeans from Mato Grosso to reach 20% - against a world average of 18% - and the protein value reaches 36% versus 34% of world average.

In 2009, China became the main trading partner of Brazil, the largest buyer of Brazilian soybeans and Mato Grosso. Population growth and economic development of China contributed to the expansion of soy consumption in the country. In 2010, China imported 31.2 million tons of soybeans, and of this amount, 13.6 million tons was from Brazil and 5.4 million t. Mato Grosso.

Sales of Agricultural Machinery in Mato Grosso Exceed Expectations
1 Feb 11

Sale have exceeded projections by 30% with some manufacturers finding Mato Grosso more lucrative than their home markets such as Argentina.

Case IH, a North American company based in Sorocaba (SP), set up a parts distribution center in Cuiabá to meet the market demand. According to business manager, Jacob Duranti Dirceu, the demand is strong due to long distances and logistics deficiency in Mato Grosso.  Case IH only has one dealer, but has established a center for technical training and spare parts.

In the month of January, equipment sales generated revenues of R$ 5 million and are expected to reach R$ 60 million by the end of the year. "From the last quarter of 2010, sales have show a strong recovery - in December we sold 70 machines", states Mr. Dirceu.  The state has the largest fleet in the country and this crop season will see 956 combines working around the state. "The local market is equal and in some cases surpasses that of all of Argentina for the company."

At John Deere, beginning of the year sales are 30% above projections. Oséias do Carmo, manager, said that in January, dealers sold 15 machines, of which 80% were acquired via financing. "Mato Grosso has a market equivalent to 20% of sales of combines in the country. While in some states the sales volume is higher, here the value added is increased as a result of the size of machines."

SUNNY DAY!

We have a nice day and we're spraying!  Finally!
A big sprayer gets a lot done in a hurry,
but even it can't go in the rain!

The tank has a 3000L capacity and the
computer tells me exactly how much is left in it.  We're putting on 100L/ha, so that lets us spray 30 ha per tank-full.
