Goiás will receive ten new plants in next the ten years according to the President of the Union Agroindústria Canavieira of São Paulo,
Eduardo Pereira de Carvalho. The national ethanol sector will receive
approximately R$ 14. 7 billion (US$ 7.3 billion) in investments. An estimated 77 producing units are the foreseen for the period. According to Eduardo, all the projects for Goiás
have been determined and financing available. All the plants are of national origin.
The State has very positive growth perspective. In Goiás there is
available land, strong tax incentives, which favors ethanol investments.
The sector, which today is very concentrated in São Paulo, is beginning to move
to other States.
Mr. Carvalho said “Brazilian production is growing
and will be sufficient to take care of foreseen demand of sugar and alcohol in the
domestic market and abroad" during his presentation at the VI the International Conference of the sector
in São Paulo. By the end of the 2012-2013 harvest , Goiás
it will have 25 producing units, which will reach 7.03% of available sugarcane compared to the rest of
the country. For the harvest of 2006-2007, the State will be responsible for
4.30% of offers of national sugarcane, behind only Minas Gerais and São
Paulo.
Currently, Brazil exports 3.1 billion liters (819 million gals) of alcohol
annually. By 2012 ethanol exports could reach 7
billion liters (1.85 billion gals) annually. Potentially, the export market for
the 2012- 013 harvest will
be composed North America (U.S.A. and Canada), consuming 2 million
cubical meters of ethanol. Asia (China, India, Japan,
South Korea and Thailand) will be responsible for 2
million cubical meters of the fuel with Europe expected to consume 1 million of cubical meters.
Other regions should total 1 million of
cubical meters.
