Petrobras confirms
the US$ 454 million ethanol pipeline construction, which will run from Senador Canedo (GO)
to Paulínia (SP), will begin the first semester of 2007. The announcement was made
yesterday by the manager of Commerce of Álcool and Oxygenates of the Petrobras,
Silas Oliva Son, during VI the International Conference of the Datagro on Sugar
and Alcohol in São Paulo gave a presentation “Chances
for Ethanol in the world-wide Fuel Market: The vision of two oil companies of oil.” The
pipeline project will receive investments in the order US$ 454
million and is forecasted to enter operation in 2010. The 800 (500 miles)
kilometers pipeline will carry six million cubical meters of alcohol per year. The
fuel will be sent from the producing ethanol plants in Goiás, Minas Gerais and
part of São Paulo. The representative of the Petrobras said that the participation of plant is in analysis. The
project will reduce freight cost by 50%. The reduction
in logistical costs will benefit the export markets directly. “Brazilian
combustible alcohol will become more competitive and the country will be able to
conquer new markets.”
For Goiás, ethanol will have an
important role in the
attraction of new investments. The pipeline will facilitate
the shipment of ethanol plants, which will add value to the
region. Silas Oliva points out that the pipeline project is already viable
based on the volumes of fuel produced by the region. What is lacking at
his stage overseas consuming markets. Amongst the markets that the Petrobras
focusing on is Japan, which should consume 1.8 million of cubical meters (475.5
million gallons) of ethanol by 2010, with expectation
of increasing to 10 million cubical meters, which is almost the half
of Brazil's present production.
For the chairman of the board of the Sifaeg/Sifaçúcar,
Segundo Braoios Martinez, Ethanol will be the salvation of the Goiás' ethanol
producers due to the State's poor in transportation infrastructure. The
pipeline will create new investments in the sector. Martinez notes that
there are currently 19
ethanol projects. These proposals include plants
already in the operating stage such as Unidade da São João in Quirinópolis,
where approximately R$300
million (US$ 139.5 million) has been invested. In addition, a new
plant, São Martinho, is under construction in Quirinópolis, which will
have the capacity to mill seven
million tons of sugar cane/year. This will place it among the largest in
Brazil.
The director-technician of the plant
Jalles Machado
, Enrique Penna
de Siqueira, hopes the pipeline is finished
by 2010 when their second
unit in Goianésia will be launched. The new Jalles plant will produce
alcohol and energy and will receive R$ 150 million in investments making their
ethanol more competitive in both domestic and overseas market.
PRIZE - Jalles Machado plant was
awarded the Prize MasterCana Brazil 2006, which recognizes the best units,
producing groups, personalities, entities and companies of the ethanol sector in Brazil.
The Jalles plant received the title as best national plant in
the question “Quality and Environment”, during supper of closing of VI the
International Conference of the Datagro on Sugar and Ethanol, in São Paulo.
