Ethanol Pipeline from Goiás to São Paulo
Petrobras confirms the US$ 454 million ethanol pipeline construction, which will run from Senador Canedo (GO) to Paulínia (SP) near Campinas, will begin the first semester of 2008.  The announcement was made yesterday by the manager of Commerce of Álcool and Oxygenates of the Petrobras, Silas Oliva Son, during VI the International Conference of the Datagro on Sugar and Alcohol, in São Paulo gave a presentation “Chances for Ethanol in the world-wide Fuel Market: The vision of two oil companies of oil.”  The pipeline project will receive investments in the order US$ 454 million and is forecasted to enter operation in 2010.  The 800 kilometers (500 miles) pipeline will carry six million cubical meters of alcohol per year. The fuel will be sent from the producing ethanol plants in Goiás, Minas Gerais and part of São Paulo. The representative of the Petrobras said that the participation of plant is in analysis. The project will reduce freight cost by 50%. The reduction in logistical costs will benefit the export markets directly. “Brazilian combustible alcohol will become more competitive and the country will be able to conquer new markets.”

Russia Bars Beef Imports From Goiás

The discovery of  vesicular stomatitis in Goiás State will cause the band on beef exports to Russia for at least 12 months per contracts between the Russian and Brazilian governments.  Russia is the largest importer of beef in the world.

US$ 32 million will be invested in corn seed facilities in Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo increasing Monsanto's production by 20%.  100 new direct jobs will be created.

Grupo Cabrera To Build Plant in Jataí To Goiás

The State of Goiás and the Grupo Cabrera have signed tax incentives contracts totaling R$814.6 million (US$ 490 million) for the establishment of an ethanol plant and land for sugarcane production.  Grupo Cabrera will invest R$ 400 million in the project.

State Government Gives Tax Break Incentive
Usina Boa Vista, in Quirinópolis, received a R$ 681 million exemption of ICMS taxes from Agência de Fomento de Goiás (GoiasFomento). Work on the plant began in 2006. It will not be completely operational until 2010; however, the plant will begin its first milling of sugarcane this year, which is expected to be approximately 1.2 million tons

Perdigão Will Invest R$ 165 million in New Meat Packing Plant

Perdigão already has a meat-packing plant in Jataí  (GO), which slaughters 70,000 chickens/day.   Perdigão will now build another plant with capacity to kill 280 chickens/turkeys per day.  There will be a total of 145 chicken producing farms, which will be financed by FCO in the amount of R$ 200 million.

Ethanol Pipeline Move Forward
Petrobas has officially given the go ahead for construction of the ethanol pipeline and the completion date has been brought forward to 2010.  Beside Goiânia, Itumbiara is also being consider for a collection station.

Ethanol Pipeline In Phase Two

Petrobras, the national oil company, has concluded phase one (viability study) of the ethanol pipeline that will run from just outside of Goiânia to Paulínia, São Paulo and then on to the Port of São Sebastião on the coast of São Paulo State.

 

The project will cost US$1 billion

 

The pipeline will carry 8 billion liters per year.

BioDiesel Company invests in sunflowers 
Bionasa, constructing the largest biodiesel in the country at Porangatu (GO), will contract farmers in Goiás and Mato Grosso and western Bahia and southern Tocantins. The company intends to stimulate the plantation of sunflower in a total of 200,000 hectares. This will enable Bionasa to guarantee a production of 160,000 tons/yr of biodiesel.  Production is planned to begin in August 2008. 

 

Sunflowers have enormous adaptation to the Brazilian cerrado (savannah). The plant, besides possessing high oil content, around 40% 44%, presents important characteristics such as resistance to the drought, cold and heat.

 

In 2010, production capacity will be expanded to 400,000 tons/yr.  A total of R$256 million will be invested in the two stages. The company also intends to stimulate the plantation of Jatropha (pinhão-manso) in the central-western region for the production of biodiesel.

Petrobras To Build 40 Sugar/Ethanol Plants
Petrobras will begin her ethanol export program with the construction of five plants in the Central-Western Region; two in Goias and three in Mato Grosso do Sul.  Fifteen of the planned 40 mills are expected to be built in the State of Goias.

US Company Invests In Ethanol Plants in Goias

Truenergy, part of the American group Upstream Cap, announced investments totaling US$ 300 million to build three sugarcane/ethanol plants in the Northeast part of the State.  The specific locations have no been determined but mostly likely in one of the following municipalities: Posse, São Domingos, Alto Paraíso, Campos Belos and/or Cavalcante.  The company plans to rent up to 60,000 hectares (144,000 acres). Goiás leads in cattle Feedlots
54% of all feedlot cattle are in Goias. Availability of feed, meat-packing plants and its central location in Brazil make the State attractive to the feedlot industry. In 2006, the state had 48% of the animals confined in Brazil and, in the beginning of the decade, 26%  The three largest operations in number of animals are in the State; Bertin - Fazenda Planura in Aruanã had 93.2 a thousand animals in 2006.  Brazil is expected to have 2.5 million cattle in feedlots this year.

Cotton Losing Out To Sugarcane
Higher risk, higher production cost, higher manpower requirements are all pushing cotton producers to enter the sugarcane sector. In the regions where the altitude is below of 600 meters (1,980 ft), such as Acreúna, Santa Helena, Porteirão and Itumbiara, traditional cotton producing areas, cotton has been substituted by soybeans and sugarcane.  This region was responsible for 70% of cotton in Goiás; now only 8%.

US$650 million Ethanol Investment in Goiás

Cosan, the largest producer of sugar and ethanol in Brazil with 17 plants in the State of São Paulo, will invest US$650 million over the next four years in three new ethanol-only plants in the counties of:  Jataí, Montividiu, Paraúna (see map).   Each plant will have the capacity to mill 3.3 million tons per year.  First plant will be online in 2009.

 

Besides Cosan, a total of US$1.79 billion is expected to be invested over the next three years in the ethanol/sugarcane sector in the State of Goiás.

The contract has been signed with a Japanese Development Bank to finance the US$600 million project.  Construction will begin in 2008 and the pipeline is scheduled to be completed in 2010-2012.

US$1.7 Billion in Ethanol Investments

Is the amount estimated to be invested over the next three years in the

ethanol sector in the State of Goiás.  Present ethanol production of 800
million liters will reach 3.2 billion liters by 2010.  30% of production is expected to be exported.

Soybeans Prices Down 12.79% From 2004/2005 Harvest
From the 2004/05 to the 2005/06 harvest, soybean prices dropped from an average of R$ 25.72  per 60 kilo bag to R$ 22.43. (60 kilos = 2.2 bu). According to IBGE the planted area went from 2,492,760 ha 2005/06 to 2,118,900 ha in 2006/07. However, good climatic conditions should improve productivity.  Although prices have increased they will have to remain 13% above the previous year average to insure profitability.
