East-West Railroad Bahia to Tocantins

The Railways of East-West integration will boost the flow of production of Bahia and connect the region with other industrial centers in the country, through connection to the North-South. Included among the priorities of the Acceleration Program (PAC), the Railroad Integration East-West will have 1.490km and require an investment estimated to be R$ 6 billion by 2012.

The railway will link the cities of Ilheus and Caetité Barriers - the state of Bahia - the Figueirópolis in the state of Tocantins, forming a transport corridor that will optimize the operation of the Port of Ponta da Granary and even open new alternative logistics ports in north of the country served by the North-South Road and Railroad.

Construction Contracts Let For Leste-Oeste RR

The contracts were let for the first leg of the Leste-Oeste, which will run from the port in Illheus, to Caetité, Bahia. The planned completion date is July 2012. The next leg from Caetité to Barreiras, Bahia is expected to be completed by July 2013. The section from Barreiras to Figueirópolis, Tocantins where it will connect with the Norte-Sul, is still in the planning stage.
