Total swine production in 2006 was 53.2 million head; a 3.3% increase over 2005.
Brazil is fourth in world production.

Regarding the living hog, prices received by farmers averaged 2.22 Reais or 1.21
dollar per kilo on Sept 28th in Sao Paulo state, upped 5.7 percent in Real over
Aug 31st. In the wholesale market of Sao Paulo capital, the hog carcass valuated
3.1 percent in Real during the same period, at 3.30 reais or 1.80 dollar per
kilo on Sept 28th.
